Big Saxy's obituary
Joshua "Big Saxy" Branin, 48, of Willis, TX, passed away on October 29, 2024, surrounded by some of his closest family and friends after a motorcycle accident. Joshua was born on January 9, 1976, in Tyler, Texas, the son of James and Ruth Ann Branin. Joshua married the love of his life, Laura Howze Branin, on August 1, 2009. Joshua and Laura have been married for 15 years. They have one child together, Daniel Branin.
Joshua worked as a Straubinger Certified Technician at Brook Mays/H&H Music. He was incredible at what he did and helped many musicians obtain or restore their instruments. Joshua was also a talented saxophonist with the stage name "Big Saxy." While he played music ranging from Tejano to Rock, he is primarily known for his talent in the Jazz/Blues genre. Joshua especially loved spending time with his family, eating good food, taking long naps, making people laugh until it hurt, fishing with his sons, going for rides on his motorcycle, and playing the blues on his saxophone.
His family holds so many special memories of Joshua in their hearts. His sons, Daniel and James Branin, remember fishing with their dad and him always catching the most fish. His granddaughter, Mariela, remembers dancing to the sound of her Papa's saxophone and his silly character voices. His grandkids, Melody and Jude, remember snuggling and movies with Papa in his big recliner.
Joshua is survived by his wife, Laura; sons, James and wife, Rebecca Branin; Joshua Branin Jr., Clinton Jackson, and Daniel Branin; his daughters, Elizabeth Branin, Savannah Kight, and Antoinette Lou Castillo; grandchildren, Jude, Melody, Malachi, Mariela, and Annalise; his mother, Ruth Ann Branin; brother, Michael Branin and wife, Sandra Branin; sister, Kristi Jackson and husband, Steve Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both paternal and maternal grandparents; his father, James Branin; daughters, Micayla Branin and Reagan Branin. The family requests prayers during this unimaginable transition.
There will be a celebration of life memorial on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God in Huntsville, Texas.
