Joe's obituary

Joseph Garland Vowell was born October 3rd, 1968, and passed away on November 5th, 2023, at 55 years, 1 month, 2 days of age. Joe resided in Springer, Okla. with his soulmate and loving wife Laura Vowell and their 10 dogs. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Ardmore, Okla. Services are under the direction of the family.

Joe had a fun personality with a touch of sarcasm. He was the type of guy who would do anything for you. Joe instantly made friends with the people he encountered and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. He was a Patriot, served in the US Army for 10 years 8 months was Honorably Discharged; served at USA SF CMD Airborne SP, in Fort Bragg, NC. His Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded were the Army Lapel Button, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award) Army Achievement Medal (2nd award) ,Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Army good Conduct Medal (3rd award), National Defense Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Master Parachutist Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Venezuelan Parachutist Badge. Joe was a proud decorated Veteran, who loved his country and loved the service of freedom he contributed to all of the rest of us!

Educationally Joe achieved two bachelor’s degrees, with MBA and MSMIS, International Relations and Affairs and Management of Information Systems 2011. Along with many other professional certifications. Joe was a successful Technology Architect in Communication and had many career achievements. Joe recently wrote the following about his professional career on LinkedIn:

I am a results - driven executive with expertise across a broad spectrum of strategy, operations, solution development, technology architecture, partnership creation/ development, portfolio/program management, engineering and training for multi-billion/million dollar companies. I have Strong entrepreneurial leadership experience creating business opportunities and constructing strategic business engagements. I am a valued member of senior executive teams providing a seasoned, broad- based perspective to create pragmatic strategies and implementation plans designed for maximum returns at the lowest possible cost. I have over 30+ years' experience successfully conceiving, designing, and delivering complex solutions for a variety of industries and environments.

He loved nature and of course ALL the dogs. 

Joe was preceded in death by his father Col. L Garland Vowell and his mother Marian Bates and his grandparents. He is survived and was a loving husband to his wife, Laura Vowell and was a devoted father and grandfather to his son, Brannon Joseph Vowell and his wife Chelsea and their 4 children and his son Skylar Garland Vowell, his sister Renee Foster and her husband James, 3 stepbrothers and his stepmother Gwen and many more extended family members.
