Joe's obituary
Joseph R. “Joe” Varady, Jr. 91, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Joe’s life was a testament to devotion to family, friends, and country.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Joe continued his lifelong service to the nation through a distinguished civilian career with the U.S. Department of Defense, where he earned the rank of Senior Executive Service (SES). He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Monmouth University.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe believed in the value of community service. He was an active member of the Lions Club in Eatontown, New Jersey, where he built friendships and gave back to the community he cherished. Joe also served on the Board of Trustees of Caregivers of Central Ocean County, New Jersey where he and other volunteers provided services to senior citizens needing transportation to doctor’s offices, grocery shopping, and helpful and social home visitations. He and Sheila were busy with all aspects of this church-sponsored activity.
Joe leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Sheila (Browne) Varady; three children, Claire Varady, Des (Krista) Varady, and Jay (Melanie) Varady; seven grandchildren, Brian (Colleen) Trembley, Carolyn (Jeff) Tompson, Joe (Kelly) Trembley, Joseph Varady, Colin Varady, Jake Varady, and Nina Varady; and one great-grandchild, JJ Tompson. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy lives on through them.
Those who knew Joe will remember his steady presence, unwavering integrity, and deep sense of duty. His life’s journey reflected his quiet strength, quick wit, and unshakable love for those closest to him.
