This story was on my heart today, and it gave me a good chuckle while thinking about Joey. Joey and I played on the same basketball team in 7th and 8th grade. Even back then Joe had a bit of a temper. One day during practice, Coach decided we had to practice our free-throws, no-one was leaving practice until we all made two in a row. The first round of shots went up, I'd say maybe 7-10 teammate made both shots. Then as each teammate got to the line to shoot for the second round of shots, almost no body made two shot in a row. This was going to be a long practice. Now the third round of shots, more and more teammate were making both shots but, not Joey, he would make the first then miss the second shot. Now, its down to about just 5 players still shooting to make two in a row and practice should have been over 30mins ago. One by one, a teammate would step up to the line make the first one then the second shot would bounce of the rim, hit the backboard and roll in the net. This happened three time in a row with three different teammates...at this point we all just want to go home and get some rest but these shots had to be made. Joey steps up, he make the first one, then the second shot bounces off the rim, hits the backboard, rolls around the rim but doesn't fall. Joey starts to getting pissed...the next person got up and make my first one and like a miracle, the second shot bounces off the rim, hits the backboard and falls in the net. Joey is the last man standing. He makes the first shot, all net...he shoots the second shot and it bounces off the rim, hits the backboard, hits the rim and doesn't go in... before the ball hit the gym floor, Joey busts out in anger- "I gets no Lucky Rolls"...the whole team is standing off to the side, and we all bust out laughing hysterically. Coach decides to have a heart and end practice, but joey says hell no coach I have to make my shots like everybody else. Joey grabs they ball, take two deep breaths and knocks down both shots and we all run to the center and cheer him on while still cracking the hell up at his outburst. Any time Joey and I would go some time without seeing each other, the first sight of one another, the first thing we yell is "I gets no lucky rolls" lol... man I miss my bro!

Joe opened my eyes to a lot of things. His world view has shaped who I am today and I’m grateful for his wisdom!

One day at target there was a lady with children that didn’t have enough to pay for her items at checkout and Joe paid for them.
In response to "What act of kindness did you witness from Joe, Joey?"
