Joseph Carmen Torneo passed away peacefully June 15, 2016 Preceded in death by his wife Ardell. He is survived by his three children Judy Fleming ,Husband
James Fleming Stephen C. Torneo, Karen Jane Torneo, David J Torneo Sister Estelle O' Brian Grand children Matthew S Peake, Kim Peake,
Kelly K.Dan, Ryan Dan, Heather H Taylor, Mark Taylor, Samuel Torneo , and Adam Torneo Great grand children Collin Dan, Wesley Dan, Hadley Taylor and Hayes
Taylor. Also nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister Maria Kennedy of Chicago Illinois. He missed her very much
Joe Torneo was born in Chicago Illinois March 1st 1928 to immigrant parents from Sicily. His parents were grocers in Chicago.
His father loved History and Told wonderful stories of the Punic wars. Joe loved reading his entire life. He graduated from the University of Chicago at the age of 16 with a degree in philosophy . He was too young for WWII but spent a short time as a merchant Marine. Married Gladys Ardell Craig a young beautiful woman he knew since they were 15. Moved his wife and young daughter to California in about 1952 where his parents had moved to South gate California to retire. There his two sons were born and Later moved to La Habra where Joe and Gladys raised their children.
Joe continued his education while raising his children. . He received a BA in english in 1965 and a masters in 1967
For most of his career Joe was with Aerojet General where he was Vice President of Contracts administration.
He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, many people.
He was one of those rare individuals who was both an intellectual and had the ability to empathize with a broad spectrum of people. He is thought of often and missed by all of us.
