Joseph's obituary

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph "Sandy" Sweeny on November 28, 2023. Born July 7, 1947, Joseph was better known to many as Sandy, a nickname that encapsulated his warm and inviting personality and his red hair. However, he always cherished his given name, Joseph, which exuded dignity and respect.

His soul was a blend of politeness, warmth, and fun, creating a cocktail of kindness and generosity, which became the cornerstone of his life. His firm belief was to live a life that would leave the world a better place than how he found it. The mantra that he lived by resonated in his actions and will be an enduring part of his legacy.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. Sweeny and Bernice (Smith). He is remembered by his two children, son Joseph C. Sweeny (Staci Lowell), daughter Theresa Sweeny, as well as his three grandchildren, Barrett Sweeny-Gizler, Noah Sweeny, and Amon Hanshaw. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Holstein (Bill Kemmett) and brother, Michael Sweeny (Lauren), and many nieces and nephews. His memory brings immense joy and profound inspiration, reflecting Joseph's life journey. His enduring kindness and benevolence will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege to know him.

The family will host a Celebration of Life for Joseph on April 20, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Old River Tap and Social, Rocky River, Ohio. To honor Joseph's history of giving and serving the community the family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, donations to The Gaucher Community Alliance, a charity that has a positive impact for those affected with Gaucher Disease and their families, like his grandson, Noah.

Sandy’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and generosity. His legacy will forever be a beacon of light in this world, reminding us all to be better and do better in our lives. His spirit will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
