I was a fellow skymarshal and worked with Joe from the spring of 1972 until he retired at O'Hare Airport in April, 1993.  He was a wonderful man and we had a lot of fun working together. I remember meeting him at the airport early on and couldn't believe he was from Dubuque, where I had just graduated from Loras College the previous May.  So we had something in common right away, although he was a veteran and this was my first full time job out of school. I said I had friends in the town and visited there maybe 4-5 times a year. He recommended the Shot Tower Inn because they had the "best chicken in town!" I made it a habit of following Joe's advice from then on. Not sure about the date but maybe about 10-12 years ago I was in the Shot Tower.  I saw a man exiting the restroom and I told my friends that he looked like a guy I used to work with. I hadn't seen Joe in quite a while and I heard he had moved to Florida so I certainly did not expect to see him in Iowa. Thinking that may have been a relative or brother perhaps I approached him from behind where he was seated and said "Joe?" He turned around and said "Hi Hagarty!" We had a nice time taking about old times and could not believe the coincidence. I live in Des Plaines and he lived in Florida and on a wonderful Saturday we got together in Dubuque. I met his wife Jane that day. Sympathies to Jane and all family members and friends. May good memories comfort you.

Uncle Joe was there when I took my first airplane flight meeting me at O’hare to have lunch and get me to my next flight. He was there with support and love for Dad and Mom when dad battled cancer for 5 years. My most Special Memory is him walking me down the aisle to start my life with John when dad was longer with us to do it. I was proud to have in fill in for dad and he will always hold a special place in my heart . Rest in Peace Uncle Joe your job in on earth is done.
