Joseph M. Runge, Sr., age 72 of New Douglas, IL, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.
He was born on Saturday, February 19, 1938, in Saint Louis, MO, the son of Henry and Vernice (nee Tidwell) Runge.
On Wednesday, December 26, 1956, he married Mavis Modell Runge (nee Goodwin) who survives.
He was a member of United Paperworkers International Union, Local 1912.
Mr. Runge was born in South Saint Louis, MO; he grew up there. During the Korean War he was in the Air Force and served in France with the Air Police. After his marriage, he and his wife lived in South Saint Louis unitl moving to Greenville, Il in 1966; they moved to Highland in 1967 and to New Douglas in 1994. Joe worked at Alton Container (now Smurfit Stone) in Highland from 1967 until retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing and taking care of his lawn. He was a good bar-b-que cook and enjoyed watching western movies. He especially like watching John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies.
