Joseph's obituary

Joseph Glover, 76, of Cottonwood AZ, passed away peacefully in his sleep on 12/26/21 after a long battle with cancer. Joe grew up in Phoenix AZ, where he spent time working for Motorola, before going on to establish his own one man business creating the most exquisite wood display bases for artists across the state. When faced with a unique or unusual art piece,  he came up with the perfect solution to showcase it every time. He was known far and wide for his ingenuity and incredible craftsmanship.

Though much of his time was dedicated to his profession, he was passionate about many hobbies as well. He always had an artistic project of his own on the side, be it furniture building, interior design, or the incredible nature photography he became so involved in later in life. While living in Phoenix in his earlier years, he became very active in the racing community and built friendships that he kept for the rest of his life. One of his proudest achievements was setting the Clifton hillclimb record. I will never forget how he beamed as he drove me up the old course and recounted his racing days, or the joy he got working on his Spitfire restoration projects over the years following.

When I was young, he was an avid collector of minerals and fossils, a love that he passed on to me. He was an art collector as well, and built a remarkable collection over the years which he took great pride in. I have many fond childhood memories of cave crawls, mine tours, museum trips, and passionate conversation surrounding the many topics he took special interest in. As a father, he also applied the incredible care that was so evident in his craft. He taught me the art of debate, as well as analysis. So many of our delivery trips were spent simply engaged in philosophical discussion, something I adore to this day. He instilled in me a love of art and musical theater, which has now been passed on to his grandchildren as well. He was never one to work from inside the box, and his courage and creativity as a parent is something I am grateful for and aspire to every day as I attempt to follow his example.

As his illness progressed, he made the decision to donate his body to medical research after his passing. His hope was that his struggle might be able to help advance treatment options and help others in the future. He asked that no memorial or funeral be held, but his ashes will be returned to his family and will be scattered over Mingus Mountain where his parents were laid to rest, as he wished.

Please share in honoring Joe's memory by recounting your stories or history with him on this page. To any of his friends reading this, thank you for all you did for him. Know that you meant the world to him, know that he spoke of you often, and know that he truly cherished that connection. My father valued many things in his life, but none more than his friends and family. He was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed.
