Joe's obituary
Joseph W. Puleo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 76. Born on June 12, 1948, in Cleveland, Joseph carried the spirit of the city in his heart throughout his life. He was the cherished son of Michael and Virginia Puleo, who instilled in him the values of hard work, compassion, and devotion to family.
Joseph was a proud veteran, having served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. His dedication to serving his country was a testament to his strong character and commitment to doing his part for the greater good. Following his military service, Joseph embarked on a successful career with Cleveland Public Power, where he dedicated himself to the community until his retirement in 2013.
In 1995, Joseph married the love of his life, April Renee Puleo. Together, they built a beautiful family, filled with love and laughter. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Renee, and his daughter, Jennifer M. Liese (Puleo), and her husband, Matt Liese. He was a proud stepfather to Matthew L. Bertloff and his wife, Nichole Bertloff, and a loving grandfather to Dominic Puleo, Zachary Scaife, Jason Puleo, Alexis Puleo, Rob Liese, Gage Ellis, and his cherished great-grandson, Jullian Puleo.
Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Angela D. Puleo, and his brother, Denny Puleo. The love he had for his family was unmatched, and he found immense joy in every moment spent with them. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took great delight in participating in their lives and witnessing their growth.
Though he may have had a gruff exterior that could intimidate at first glance, those who truly knew him understood that he was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold. His kindness and generosity extended beyond his family, as he was a devoted dog lover, providing care and shelter to countless dogs through his work with Boxer rescue alongside his wife. His passion for life was evident in every aspect, especially in his hobbies. Joseph was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, often found riding the open roads, embracing his inner biker. He also had a creative side, expressed through his love for photography and tinkering with computers and electronics.
