Joe's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph "Joe" Mora, beloved family member, respected police officer, and valued community member. Born on August 16, 1974, Joe embraced life fully until his death on November 23, 2023.

Joe was a vibrant personality, known for his outgoing, positive, and caring nature. His philosophy was simple: to always be kind and patient. This ethos guided him in his life, his career, and his relationships, making him a cherished figure in his community.

His professional path led him to serve the community as a police officer with the Port Isabel Police Department, beginning May 10, 1996. Joe was admired for his dedication and integrity. His commitment to public service was one of his greatest achievements, marking a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Joe was deeply spiritual, regularly attending our lady star of the sea catholic church. He was also an active participant at the Houston Center for Independent Living, further proving his dedication to community service and personal development.

He held a deep love for his local community, often spotted dining at Tom and Jerry's or grabbing a bite at Whataburger. A die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, Joe was also an avid game enthusiast, enjoying rounds of Monopoly, Clue, Uno, and Bingo with friends and family. His favorite pastime was hanging out with family, illuminating the room with his joy and lightheartedness.

Joe had a sincere love for the arts. Black Sabbath and AC/DC were his preferred music, with The Hunger Games topping his list of favorite books. He enjoyed watching Cops, Full House, and Two and a Half Men on television and held a fondness for movies like Rush Hour, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Grown Ups. Monet's masterpieces were his favorite pieces of art, and he enjoyed the serenity and inspiration they offered.

Joe often kept himself fit by attending the PD gym, and loved spending his vacation time in South Padre Island and Corpus Christi Beach. His favorite meals were anything barbecue, complemented with potato salad, mashed potatoes, and an ice-cold Coke.

Passionate about giving back, Joe was especially concerned about Breast Cancer Awareness. He often lent his voice and resources towards supporting this cause. Ever the optimist, Joe's favorite color was green — a symbol of growth, harmony, and freshness.

The Viewing for Joe will be held on November 26, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors. As we say goodbye, we carry with us Joe's lessons of kindness, patience, and love. His legacy is one of service, care, and immense love for his family and community. Joe will always live on in our hearts.
