Joseph (Mick)'s obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joseph (Mick) McDonough, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Mick was born on October 10, 1935, and peacefully departed this life on February 8, 2025.
Mick was a man of great character, embodying a wonderful sense of humor and an outgoing personality that touched everyone he met. Known for his likability, he had the innate ability to spark engaging conversations with people from all walks of life. He was a hard worker and a devout Catholic, often sharing his faith and positive outlook on life, leading many towards God. His enduring encouragement and affection will be deeply missed.
Mick's remarkable legacy includes serving his country as a veteran of the US Army. He bought a farmhouse on 80 acres in Yale, MI to start a family with his bride, Judi. They raised their two children, some chickens, and dogs there. A lot of family gatherings took place at "the farm." Later in life, Mick and Judi retired and moved to Roscommon, MI where he and his brother Bill spent their teenage years helping their grandparents in the summer with their cabin business.
Mick was predeceased by his father, James McDonough, his mother, Eva (Leykauf) McDonough, and his brothers, William and Dennis McDonough. He is survived by his wife, Judith McDonough; his children, Kathleen (Daniel) Pilgrim, Keith (Bonnie) McDonough; his grandchildren, Joseph Pilgrim, Jamie Rae (Brad) Manns, Wade McDonough, Drake McDonough; his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Marcus, Madison, Malachi, Macy, Marek, and Maria Manns; his sisters, Patricia McDonough, and Ann (Frank) Knill; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was a strong, brave, and faithful man, and his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. His legacy of faith, love, and laughter is one that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held on February 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church, 6945 Lakeshore Rd., Lakeport, MI 48059, followed by a luncheon across the street at St. Edward's Parish Hall. It is here that we can all come together to celebrate the life of Mick - a man who was indeed very special.
We extend our deepest condolences to the entire McDonough family and all who held Mick dear to their hearts. His presence, his laughter, his warm advice, and his love will be greatly missed.
Mick will be cremated and a burial service will take place in the spring at Great Lakes National Cemetary in Holly, MI. Please reach out to us if you'd like to join us at that time.
