Joe's obituary

Joseph Junior Meek, 39, of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, September 19, 1997, after an auto accident on I-435 Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 12 noon Tuesday, September 23, 1997 at Park Lawn Memorial Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, MO.  Visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made for the children's education fund and may be sent in c/o the funeral home.

Mr. Meek was born in Madison, WI, but lived in the Kansas City area most of his life. He was 9th grade Class President at Westport High School and graduated from Truman High School in 1976. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He had been an Eagle Scout. He was named honorman and was a Sergeant in Classified Intelligence in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Joe had worked as a Tax Examiner for the IRS and had been employed at Consolidated Freightways for the past two years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 41. Joe was a hardworking, irreplaceable husband and father. He had been an assistant basketball coach and Boy Scout leader. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his family or anyone else who would go. He was encouraging his sons toward weight lifting and was excited to be nearing his old press weight of 300 lbs. He was well liked and respected by his many friends and acquaintances who appreciated his work ethic and dedication to family life. His family also knew well of his love and efforts for them. He will be sorely missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ruth Ann and his sons, Elias Joseph, 11, Isaac Walter, 10, and Amos Frazier, 11 months; mother, Norma Meek, of Belton, MO; brothers, Thomas Arthur and John Walter, both of Kansas City, MO; and sisters, Sylvia Joann Franks, of Sallisaw, OK, Cynthia Joyce Irons and Marcella Jone Fishman, both of Overland Park, KS.
