Joe's obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Mr. Joseph "Joe" Luciani, who passed away on December 02, 2023 in Barrington, Illinois.

Always finding the small things to laugh about, Joe was the light of our lives. He was always so full of determination and grit. You could find Joe tinkering, building, or restoring model trains and airplanes in his spare time and deeply loving his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was impossible not to be drawn in by his infectious laugh, wisdom, and passion for all he believed in and loved.  Joe was always very motivated and set outstanding goals for himself. Joe set out to be the first college graduate in his family which he achieved when he graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering. Joe then began his career as a Civil Engineer working for Blauvelt Engineering, Sydney B. Bowne Surveyors, Lizza & Sons, and finally, ended his career as the Corporate VP of Land Development with Centex Homes. After his retirement in 2003, Joe volunteered at the Illinois Railway Museum where he helped to restore old train cars back to their original condition. You could also find Joe in his basement running his model trains, analyzing maps and numbers, and creating new additions to his incredible hobby train layout. Most often, you would find Joe enamored of his loving wife, Carol, with whom he deeply enjoyed exploring the world with. Joe was extremely proud of his five children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom affectionately adored him. He was immensely proud of the legacy he created and we are forever grateful that he was ours. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Illinois Railway Museum. You will be forever in our hearts, Dad.
