Joseph's obituary
Joseph Philip “Joe” Lafond died on June 11, 2023 in Aurora, Colorado at 93 years of age of natural causes. Joe was born on September 13, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Dorothy (nee Haas) Lafond. The fourth of five children, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (nee Falconieri), sisters Marguerite (Raymond) Gran, Rosie (Earl) Castner, Frances (Walter) Bizon, and his brother William (Patricia) Lafond. He was also preceded in death by his oldest daughter Barbara (James) Lambright. He is survived by five of his seven children and their spouses: Martin (Carol) Lafond, Susan Gardner, Donna (John) Jaksha, Michael (Joanne) Lafond, and Christine (Ron) Cozort. A seventh child, Martha Joseph, was born prematurely and didn't survive. Joseph is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 21 of his 22 nephews and nieces.
Joseph lived in Buena Park for almost 52 years, having retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 33 years of service. He and his late wife Dorothy worshiped at St. Pius X (Buena Park, CA) and St. Paul of the Cross (La Mirada, CA) Catholic Churches, the latter at which he and Dot ran the teen club for many years. Joe was a prodigious storyteller and was never at a loss for words. Joe also loved basketball, having played for his alma mater, St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota, but he was always an ardent Notre Dame fan, having been accepted to the university, but deferred entrance due to WWII vets being given priority admittance.
A Rosary will be held July 6, 2023 at 10:30am at Light of the World Roman Catholic Church in Littleton, Colorado (10306 W Bowles Ave, Littleton, CO 80127) with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am. The Rosary and Mass will be livestreamed (https://bit.ly/JoeLafond Meeting ID: 841 2326 6341 Passcode: 871469). Joe will be cremated, to be interred with his wife Dorothy at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, California on July 20, 2023 at 11:30am. A private picnic will follow for the immediate family.
