Joseph's obituary

Joseph "Joe" Hugh White passed away at St. Luke's Hospital - The Vintage on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, after battling COVID-19.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Jean White; his parents, Hugh and Helena White; his brothers, Linwood Tillman, Angus White, and Jerry White; and his sister, Doris White.

He is survived by his children, daughter Dawn Savage and her husband, Mike; Duane White and his wife, Crystal; and Daryl White and his wife, Emily. Eight grandchildren, Aubrey, Christian, Kaitlyn, Levi, Ethan, Justin, Ashley, and Naomi. Numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and a special friend who walked together in the griefs, Nan.

Born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in 1948, Joe was the middle of five children raised in the marshes of the coast. He graduated from Mississippi State University, and had a long career as a naval architect. He served as a civilian for the US Navy, worked at the shipyard in Pascagoula, and then traveled the world inspecting offshore oil drilling rigs. He loved finding hidden gems in all the places he traveled to bring home to his family.

He carried a deep faith he shared with family and friends throughout his life. He was an active member of a Sunday School class at The Met (Metropolitan Baptist Church) in Houston.

He laughed, loved, and lived well, and will be dearly missed.
