Joseph's obituary
Joseph Griffin graduated from Prince George High School in 1977. He had a love for music like his late father which lead him to join PGHS band as a saxophonist. Immediately after graduating from high school, he was hired by Strosnider Chevrolet as a master mechanic. Shortly after having his first child, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He served proudly as a boiler operations technician. He traveled the world's ocean and stopped along the coastal towns of many nations. During the course of his travels he had the distinction of crossing the Arctic Circle aboard the USS Caloosahatchee AO-98 a Cimarron-class oiler on October 2, 1979. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1983, Mr. Griffin's mechanical skills as a boiler room operator steered him to his career with Phillip Morris USA. At the age of 54, with 31.5 years with the company, Joe entered the relaxing world of retirement.
To know Joe is to know a man whose native tongue was filled with a wisdom that would always steer you in the right direction. He had a heart as big as the world that he lived in and to have it shared with you was an honor. His distinctively loud laugh was easy to identify and you knew that where he was there was genuine joy. That joy in his soul spilled out to anyone around him making them feel like break-dancing on the dance floor. He would help anyone he felt deserved after assessing the situation and fussing at them for not having their priorities together. Joe did not bite his tongue for anyone, he was a man who freely spoke his mind. Most may not have understood or agreed with his way of expression but it was always coming from a good place. He was a man who wanted the best for everyone.
