Joseph's obituary
Joseph (Joe) Patrick Dugas, Sr., beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on May 31, 2025.
Joe was born on December 22, 1958 in Paterson, New Jersey to Gerald Dugas and Margaret Cormier Dugas. Joe grow up in Hollywood, Florida and graduated from McArthur High School. He was the youngest of four children.
Joe joined the Navy and served on the USS Willamette (AO 180) as a boiler technician from November 9, 1987 to November 8, 1991. Joe's military education consisted of Boiler Technician "A" School, Aviation Firefighting School and General Shipboard Firefighting School. Joe received the Good Conduct Award, Battle "E" Ribbon and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
After discharge from the Navy, Joe worked for Reliable Carriers in Orlando, Florida for over 26 years. He was shop supervisor and worked many long hours.
After Joe retired, he moved to Astor, Florida and purchased a home on a canal leading to the St. John's River. He was very active on social media and loved communicating with his family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Margaret Dugas, brother, Gerald Dugas, Jr., and nephew, Michael Albury. He is survived by his daughters, Candice (Rigo) Umana of Ocoee, Florida; Alyson (Samuel) Guzman of Apopka, Florida, and son, Joseph P. (Veliska) Dugas, Jr. of Altamonte Springs, Florida; two grandsons, Rigo, Jr. and Alexzander Umana; two granddaughters, Caitlin Umana and Aurora Dugas, sister, Evelyn Gish of Astor, Florida and brother, Dale (Tina) Dugas of Silver Springs, Florida along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service with Military Honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on June 27, 2025 at 12:30 p.m.
