Joseph's obituary
Joseph Howard Michael Dawkins, 42, of Hillsdale, NJ died unexpectedly on May 06, 2020. His loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.
Joseph was born on January 07, 1978 to Joseph and Agnes Dawkins in Hackensack, NJ. Joseph was All American in Football and Track at Hackensack High School, a state champion, state record holder in the 100m dash and played football on a full scholarship at Penn State University. He was an incredible coach to young athletes, and he dedicated his career to helping others in health and fitness through Trainer Joe Fitness and Journey Sports Performance out of Body Chemistry in Norwood, NJ.
Joseph had a passion for the arts and music. He began creating drawings and sketches from a young age which was something he wanted to rekindle before his passing. In an ‘Athlete of the Week’ article from 1994, Joseph details how his father saw he had talent and encouraged him in it. He chose the portrait from that article to cover one of his albums of music ‘Lost and Found’ alongside his other project ‘Resurrection’ which he was expanding upon before his passing.
Joseph’s family and friends will miss him more than words can say. Devoted fiancé of Adriana Kynast. Loving father of Kya, Joseph Jr., and Solomon. Dear brother of Elese Stanford. Uncle to Martine, Kendall, and Jason. A cousin, sometimes more of a brother, to many, Denny and Ricky Potter to name a few. A nephew to Arline, Audrey, Darrell, Louis, Ira Jane, Tatia and many more. A friend to thousands.
Joseph was a man too great to measure in a mere amount of words. His love and generosity knew no bounds, his smile lit up a room, and his love and energy captivated and embraced us all.
Contributions in memory of Joseph can be made to Alumni in Recovery and the Black Poster Project, two causes he was deeply passionate about. Memorial service to be announced at a later date.
