Joseph's obituary

Joseph William Cinkewicz, lovingly known as Joey, was born on October 9, 1950, in Orange, New Jersey, and passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, with his family by his side, at the age of 75.

Joey was a devoted husband, father, and proud Poppy. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane, on February 16, 1974, and together they built a beautiful life and marriage that spanned nearly 52 years. He was a proud father to his three children, Beth Ann, Michele, and Michael, and a loving Poppy to his six cherished grandchildren: Nola, Emi, James, Zenor, Mayla, and Jack. Joey also lovingly considered his daughter-in-law, Patrice, and his sons-in-law, Elie and Jim, as his own.

Joey worked as a plumber and pipefitter out of Local 9, where he was highly respected in his trade and earned the nickname “Blue.” Even after retirement, he continued to help family and friends with their plumbing needs. A true “Mr. Fix-It,” Joey could repair just about anything and always found a way to make things like new.

Joey often said that if he ever won the lottery, he would generously donate it to his favorite charities that supported children and animals. His generosity and willingness to help others were constants throughout his life.

He enjoyed hunting with his gun club, fishing with family, planting flowers, fixing things, recycling, and lending a helping hand whenever it was needed. Most of all, Joey loved spending time with his family. He cherished sharing stories about his work, family gatherings, his grandchildren, or simply sitting and talking about everyday life.

One of Joey’s favorite sayings was, “You never miss a vacation!” Nothing brought him more joy than vacationing with all 14 members of his family. His love for them was boundless, and it showed in everything he did.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Estason Cinkewicz; his father, Joseph Cinkewicz; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Smath Cinkewicz; his daughter, Beth Ann Skalski, her husband Jim Skalski, and their son, Zenor; his daughter, Michele Cinkewicz DeFranca, her husband Elie, and their daughters, Nola, Emi, and Mayla; his son, Michael Cinkewicz, his wife Patrice, and their sons, James and Jack; as well as many cherished cousins.
