Joseph's obituary
Joseph A Cartlidge, Jr. of Reno, NV passed away on August 4, 2025, just a few weeks shy of celebrating his 75th birthday. He was the cherished father to Kris Cartlidge and beloved ex-husband and friend of Liza Cartlidge. He was the loved oldest brother to Bill (Mary Kate), Jim (Ann), John, Bobbi Roth (David) and Maggie Fisher (Dennis). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
Joe was a proud Villanova graduate, Class of 1972. After receiving his BS in Math, he went on to earn his CPA license and was hired by Laventhal and Horwath in Philadelphia, where he worked for many years in public accounting. Joe owned a home in Longport, NJ, and as the casino industry was burgeoning, he accepted the position of CFO for Playboy Casino in Atlantic City. He continued working in future roles in finance and consulting throughout his career spanning from NY to CA and beyond.
Joe had many passions including an incredible zest for knowledge, evident through his daily conquering of the NYT Crossword Puzzle and Spelling Bee. He’d been an avid fisherman since his 20’s, which led to owning a series of boats and earning his Charter Captain’s license, that he actively used at the helm of Anomaly I, II and III out of the Margate marina.
His favorite pastime was on the golf course, most recently as a member of ArrowCreek Country Club in Reno. He was active in many ways at the club and renowned for his skills at handicapping, analysis and tournament organization. A large collection of wins at Member Guests, Player of the Year, etc., were among his cherished memories of ACC. He was blessed with a wonderful group of friends, with whom he often shared a cigar, beverage, story or meal. Their support of Joe throughout his illness was greatly valued by his family.
Joe loved the Phillies and had an active spreadsheet of player and games stats dating back to the 70’s. He enjoyed the Eagles, and of course, watching his Villanova Wildcats rise to national recognition and win multiple NCAA titles.
Joe will be sorely missed by his family and friends who are heartened to know he has been reunited with his parents and together we envision them enjoying a good Phillies game and just maybe a VO & Water!
A memorial service and celebration of life will be planned in Pennsylvania and Nevada in September.
