Joseph's obituary
Joseph Broussard, 95, passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles, California, on February 16, 2026.
Born on January 16, 1931, in Dayton, Texas, to Napoleon and Ezelda Broussard, Joseph was raised alongside his eight siblings. From an early age, he was shaped by the values of hard work, resilience, and faith — principles that guided him throughout his life.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, carrying his patriotism and quiet strength with him long after his military service ended.
After his time in the Army, Joseph moved to Seattle to begin a new chapter before eventually settling in Los Angeles, where he built a life centered around family, friendship, and faith. He worked for many years at Lockheed Martin, providing for his family with dedication, integrity, and steadfast commitment.
Joseph was a man who truly enjoyed life. He cherished time spent with family and friends playing dominos, watching horse races, traveling, and sharing laughter in good company. Known for his bubbly personality and adventurous spirit, he embraced every opportunity to connect with others. He will be remembered not only for his devotion to family, but also for his respectful nature, gentle listening, and the kindness and care with which he chose his words.
A devoted man of God, Joseph was a faithful and beloved member of St. Agatha's Catholic Church. His faith guided his actions, strengthened his family, and remained the cornerstone of his life.
Above all, Joseph was most proud of being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his four grandchildren — Rebecca Dixon; Katie (Joseph) Shute; Scott (Hannah) Dixon; and Reid Dixon — and delighted in his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Russell Jr., Forest, Holly, Stone, and Theodore. His love for them was boundless, and he wore the title of “Grandpa” with immense pride.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Napoleon and Ezelda Broussard; his former wife, Gwendolyn Mallory; and his siblings, Grant Broussard (b. 1920), Emily Wycliff, (b. 1922), Cecile Melonson (b. 1924), Frank Broussard (b. 1926), Corrine 'Tiko' Broussard (b.1928), Simon Broussard (b. 1934), Georgia Collette (Joseph's Twin Sister, b. 1931), Ambrose Broussard (b. 1936), and Richard Martin Broussard (b. 1938).
Joseph is survived by his children, Ronald Broussard of Denver, Colorado, Elsa Koval (Jon) of Lucas, Texas; and Donna Broussard Smith of Los Angeles, California; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held on March 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 2646 S. Mansfield Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90016. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Avenue, Culver City, California 90230.
Joseph will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his vibrant personality, love of life, unwavering faith, and deep devotion to his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
