Joe's obituary

Joseph Edward Bingham Sr., born on March 8, 1957, to William Bingham Sr. and Ida May Bingham, passed away on December 2nd, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Bingham Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Melinda Bingham, and his children: Joseph Bingham Jr. and his fiancée Cynthia; William Bingham and his wife Heather; Shannon Heaney and her husband Brandon; Charles Bingham; Melissa Puffenbarger and her husband Bobby; and Brandon Moreland. He was the cherished grandfather of Amber Elwess and her husband Joseph, Kalynn Cogle and her husband Will, Joelia Bingham, Nick Bingham, Cameron Bingham, Rowan Heaney, Kyle Murray, Makaila Puffenbarger, and Hunter Moreland, as well as the proud great-grandfather of Kynleigh, Karleigh, Kayden, and Ryatt Sciler. He is also survived by his brothers, James Bingham and Thomas Bingham, as well as numerous friends and extended family.

Joe grew up in Prince George's County, where he began his lifelong commitment to service as a volunteer firefighter in Greenbelt and Capitol Heights. After moving to St. Mary’s County, he became a dedicated member of the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he formed countless lifelong friendships.

He spent his career working in Heating and Air, bringing his expertise and dedication to homes and businesses. Outside of work, Joe had many passions: golf, fishing, spending time with his family, making jokes—often inappropriate—and finding endless ways to lovingly embarrass his children. He was an avid football fan who cheered enthusiastically for the Steelers but secretly held a soft spot for the Redskins, often calling his kids after games to discuss every play.

Joe was immensely proud of his children and the lives they built, always there to offer support, advice, or simply "shoot the shit." His personality was larger than life, and his humor, warmth, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The hole he leaves in the lives of his family and friends is vast, but his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Joe's life will be celebrated at Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad on December 22nd from 12 to 4 pm. All are invited to come to share photos and memories. Light refreshments will be provided.
