Joseph's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Bertone, who left us on July 30, 2009. Born on March 3, 1942, Joseph lived a fulfilling life of 67 years. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Frank and Mary Bertone. Since Joseph's death he has also lost a brother John Bertone.
Joseph is survived by his brother, Frank Bertone (Tanya), daughter, Joann Bertone, his son, Joseph Bertone II and step-daughter Diana, and his grandchildren Sandra and Joseph III.
Joseph was a member of the United States Air Force. Many may remember Joseph from his Speed Shop in Jersey City, NJ in the 70's, "Joron's." He ran the shop with his high school sweetheart Lucretia Pepe who he married in June of 1964. He also had a partner Ronald Dobis who shared his love for race cars. Although Joseph and Lucretia divorced they will all always be remembered as a force to be reckoned with in NJ drag racing. Lucretia passed away on January 31, 2022 and has hopefully reunited with her partner in crime.
Joseph was a dedicated law enforcement officer in Texas. Joseph's favorite recreational activities included drag racing, fishing, and antique collecting. Each of these hobbies revealed something about Joseph's character - his love for speed and adrenaline, his appreciation for the quiet moments in life, and his profound respect for history and craftsmanship.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may his memory live on through the many lives he touched during his time on this Earth.
