Joe's obituary

Joseph John Balli Jr. June 29, 1949 – June 13, 2024

Joseph John Balli Jr., affectionately known as "Joe" or "Tutti," passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, just shy of his 75th birthday. Born on June 29, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Joe’s early life was marked by resilience and the strong bonds of family. Following the tragic death of his mother, Mary Ann Perkins, when he was less than a year old, Joe was lovingly raised by his aunt, Lena "Nanny" Vivola. At the age of three, he went to live with his grandparents, Austin and Elisa Ross, on Galveston Island.

Joe, known as Tutti Ross to family and friends during his youth, attended Ball High School. Following his education, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Upon completing his military service, Joe embarked on a long and dedicated career in the cable television industry, working for the Teleprompter Corporation and Time Warner.

A man of faith, Joe was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Galveston. He found immense joy in spending time with his three sons and seven grandchildren and cherished time spent bbq’ing and fishing with lifelong friends Mark Ward, Jack Higgins, Skip McComb, and Hal Friedsam.

Joe is survived by his three sons: Douglas Balli of Galveston, TX, Jason Balli and wife Amy of Santa Fe, TX, and Keith Balli of Santa Fe, TX. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his seven grandchildren and one great grandson (with another on the way): Kyle McGilberry and wife Celeste with great grandson Luke Owen, Cole McGilberry , Dallas Balli and wife Marissa expecting great grandson Denver Grey in December, Brayden Fritch, Katelyn Balli, Kolby Balli, and Harper Balli. Joe is also survived by siblings Jose, Perry, Tony, Lena, Stella, Joanna, Emilia, Andrew, and Manuel.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving mother Mary, his father, his Aunt Lena (Nanny), his grandparents Austin and Elisa Ross, his sister Louisa, and his brothers Abel and Johnny.

A special thank you to his cousin Gloria Limon who loved him like a brother and cared for him throughout his life.

Joe's life was a testament to perseverance, dedication, and a deep love for family and friends. His memory and legacy will live on in the beautiful family he created and cherished and in the hearts of everyone he touched.

A Celebration of Life to honor Joe will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Bienville Social located at 323 23rd Street in Galveston from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Rest in peace, Joe. Your spirit and legacy will forever live on.
