Joseph's obituary

Joseph “Joey” Astemborski, Jr was welcomed into Gods loving arms on February 15, 2024. He was 78 years old.

Joey was born September 26, 1945 in Beverly, NJ. Growing up in a small town, he was well known around the neighborhood.

As one of 6 siblings, Joey knew how to make his presence known. His personality, kindness and sense of humor made him unforgettable to his friends and family. As a child, he used his boyish charm to get himself out of trouble, which happened quite frequently. Kissing up to his mother by offering to iron, cook or clean, all while playing practical jokes behind her back like peeing in his little brother’s diaper, while he was being potty trained.

Joey attended Palmyra High School before leaving to enroll in the Air Force. He worked various jobs, before settling in at the Beverly National Cemetery.

Joey loved the outdoors, fishing, boating, going down the shore and mowing the lawn. He enjoyed driving his motorcycle to Seaside. His claim to fame was burning out the clutch on his brand new 1970 roadrunner the same day he bought it. Joey always enjoyed a project, giving him an opportunity to show off his “skills”, which later became known as “Polish Engineering”.

He was the type of guy that you either loved or you hated. He didn’t take any $h*t. If you messed with him, he would have no issue picking you up by your collar and hanging you from a coat hook, or straight up punching you in the face. Behind his hard exterior, Joey had a heart of gold. You may be surprised to know, that young Joey was a talented ice skater. You may not be surprised to know, that he only did that to pickup chicks. It didn’t hurt that he also bore a strong resemblance to Elvis Presley, so the ladies didn’t stand a chance.

Joey used all his aforementioned charms to hook the love of his life, Carroll. Even though they moved to Ohio, New Jersey was still in their hearts, as they frequently came back to visit friends, family & local pizzerias.

Much like his father, Joey never left anywhere empty handed. His brother would jokingly say “Joey’s in town, hide the valuables” as Joe would load up his van with anything he could get his hands on from old car radios to random car parts. Anything he couldn’t fit in the van he’d arrange for pickup at a later date. Joey & Carroll never left NJ without grabbing a dozen pizzas to take back to Ohio, because if you didn’t know already: Ohio Pizza sucks.

Joey retired from the Dayton National Cemetery in Ohio. After his retirement, Joey drove a tractor trailer cross-country, always stopping to see his sister Carole when he was close by. During his road trips, Joe enjoyed listening to audio books, especially his favorite, Harry Potter.

Joey will be remembered as a carefree, hardworking man, who was mouthy, crazy, fun, and rough around the edges- a true Astemborski.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Carroll, parents, Joseph Astemborski, Sr. and Catharine “Liz” Yannarella Astemborski, as well as his brother Domenic Astemborski (Ruth) and his sister Carmela Reeve (Russell). He is survived by his loving siblings: Carole Astemborski, Eva Blow and Cathy Emma (Ron), children Tami Clark (John), Joseph (Ilene), Jonathan (Kandis) and Heather Procopio and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.

Services for Joey Astemborski will be held at a later date.
