As per this morning's email:  We lived nextdoor to the Geiger's on 45th. I did not know Josef. I may have met him as a baby...(cannot remember when his grandparents moved to Neskowin.)

1-The kindness I remember is how much love he drew out of his Grandparents...esp. his Grandma Bev Geiger. I was sooo impressed that she went to live with Josef in S. Oregon and the fun brownie story.

2-The impact is to try and be the kind of Grandma that Bev was...so full of love and acceptance. ox, patty

Joseph was much loved and felt a deep connection with the earth. He engaged in meditative practice as he dealt with his struggle to balance. I remember visits to the Main Street house and his engaged presence. He was loved by friends and family.
I only met Josef once, at dinner in his mom & Sarah’s house. He was lively and engaging, and he sat at the end of the table, his back to the garden, laughing and talking with pleasure. His birthday is also the birthday of my firstborn son, though I gave birth to mine in 1966, so mine is 10 years older.

Joe was a much loved Jesuit student in the early 1990s.  He was mischievous and smart and had a smile that lit up rooms.  He was a teammate of mine on our soccer and basketball teams and used to come over to my house for dinner before basketball games since I lived near school and he lived downtown.   My JHS ‘94 classmates and I are terribly sad to hear of Joe’s struggles and his recent passing—too young, of course, but also so tragic given what we remember of his youthful energy and great promise.  God grant him peace, at long last, and may he live on in our memories.
Oh dear Shirlee, I am so sorry to hear this! I know that you and Sarah were steadfast in your support and love for Josef.  You are in our prayers! Sending loads of love, Chris
My condolences to Josef (Youssef)'s family. I first met Josef as a child in 1983 or so. He was a sweet child. I remember him with his friend Todd, from school, his dog Junkers (that name was some cooked up  by Todd and Josef) and several trips to his grandparents house at the coast in Neskowin. In later years, I was so sorry to hear of what a struggle his adult life was, and now, to hear of his tragic death. Be at peace, Josef/Youssef.
So sorry to hear this.  I remember when he was born and what a beautiful baby he was.  He was such a big healthy boy and always smiling. He always  had a special place in your moms heart. We are so sorry for all of you. What a beautifully written account of his life. Thank you.  With love and prayers, the Campbell family
