Background

It is with a heavy heart that we share that the patriarch and rock of our family, Jose Jesus Zapata, has been called home at the age of 83. While his loss has been devastating to the entire family, leaving us broken and lost, we know in our hearts that he is finally at rest and no longer in pain.

For the past 5 years, our father fought long and hard, battling through many illnesses, infections, surgeries, an amputation, and hospitalizations - always brave and always hopeful. Throughout this painful journey, we almost lost him several times, but he never gave up and kept going. He was strong, stubborn, and a fighter with a passion for life, his family, his culture, and nature. A true traditionalist at heart, he was very set in his ways, thoughts, and beliefs, especially in how he wanted to live his life. Many of you know how challenging and combative he was on a good day, and even more so as things grew more difficult. He was opposed to end-of-life planning, struggled to trust anyone other than himself and God, and wanted to always live in the moment. As such, his sudden death - leaving behind no will, plans, or anything for our mother - has left us unprepared for the burden of funeral expenses and other costs to help settle his affairs.

We want to honor his memory and give him the memorial that he deserves. He always loved Mexico and made it very clear that he wanted to return to the place he loved the most, San Luis Potosi. He would push on, fight, and endure endless treatments and so much pain, all with the hope that one day he'd be well enough to return. Although he has lost that fight, we want to fulfill his wishes and take him home to Mexico.

We are currently asking for any donations to cover the costs of his funeral, documentation for transporting him to Mexico, a place in his favorite church, and travel expenses for the family.

Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day.

Sincerely,
Rosemary Zapata
