With a heavy heart we annouce that our father passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 18TH, 2020.
Many who knew Jorge would say he was a man with 9 lives! 71 Years young.... he had survived heart attacks, a stroke that nearly took his life, a heart stint, diabetes, and kidney issues to name a few....but nothing STOPPED this man! His strength to push through these obstacles have been admired by all.
Jorge lived in SANTIAGO DE CUBA & BANES from 1948-1964.
He attended Our Lady of Caridad in BANES and was an altar boy for Father Emerio Sanchez Alvarez. He was a cub scout and played on the Cubanitos Baseball Team growing up.
Some of his favorite pastimes were playing the spanish guitar and performing at the church recitals. He also played for the comminuty basketball team. He loved being active and involved in his community.
With his mother and sister, Jorge left CUBA in 1964 and resided in beautiful PORTLAND. OREGON. There they lived with relatives for a little over a year. He attended and graduated from High School in OREGON and worked as a dishwasher at the Hotel Cosmopolitan. The cold was too much for them, so they moved to HAWTHORNE, CALIFORNIA.
He attended El Camino College for a short time and worked odd jobs with close relatives until he landed his career job, working for Western Airlines. He loved working at the airport and the benefits of flying all over the world.
MARRIED RITA M. IN 1969 and had two daughters named Liza & Gina.
REMARRIED MARIA M. IN 1985.He was a widower 2011.
He resided in Racho Palos Verdes with is companion Karen for 16+ years. There they enjoyed the beautuful Pacific Ocean sunsets right from their balcony. They loved and cared for each other so very much.
He retired as a 27 year employee of Delta Airlines. His favorite thing to do was to travel visiting family in OREGON & FLORIDA. But his very favorite place to be was on the beaches of Hawaii.
He was proud to have achieved 18 years of sobriety and loved giving back to his sober community. He dedicated 17 years as a volunteer facilitator for the Men's Alumni & In-Patient Group at Providence Little Company of Mary SP Hospital, Chemical Dependancy Unit. He had a devoted passion to help other men get sober and wanted others to know that they can achieve anything they set their mind and heart to do. He attended daily 12 Step meetings and was deeply admired and respected amoung those that attended with him.
We as a family, are so beyond proud of his 18 year sobriety and his dedication to helping others. He was and still is such an inspiration to others. His wise and blunt words will be missed and his sobriety has been a blessing that keeps on giving...even in his passing. His grandchildren will always remeber him as Grandpa Jorge....always giving the best heartfelt hugs and the ever so famous smell of cologne he left behind on you after his big hugs.
Our Papi always looked sharp. Most famous for wearing Cuban Guayabera or his colorful Hawaiian shirts. He wouldn't leave anywhere without styling his hair. He was the definition of a GUAPO CUBANITO!!
Jorge, Papi, Grandpa, Ito, our good friend....you leave us such great memories that we will treasure forever. You will always be loved, never forgotten, and deeply missed. We are beyond blessed to have had you in our lives and may you rest in peace with all the angels.
Papá sabemos que estás con Dios, cuidándonos siempre. Que descanses en paz y te queremos mucho. Hasta que nos encontremos de nuevo.
