Jonathan's obituary
Jon was born in Texas on December 9, 1981 to Robert Lee McPherson II and Tamara K. Soderberg (Perkins), both are deceased. He is survived by his bonus father, Dr. Richard W. Soderberg; brother Robert (Tray) Lee McPherson III; three sisters: Jennifer A. McPherson, Amber N. Labandt, and Laura Lee E. Robinson; Paternal Grandparents: Robert Lee McPherson and Dorothy Mea Cunningham (deceased); Maternal Grandparents: Royce G. Perkins and Juanelda (Nelle) Rounsaville; Jamie L. Madlock, mother to his children; his wife: Andreaa Georgica and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Jon, a talented rebel of a man, would give a stranger the shirt off his back. He was exceptionally gifted with anything he put his mind to from music, to fishing, to scoring multi-million dollar construction projects. He was bright and witty and cocky and funny. He had a playful sense of humor, a philosophical mind, an ability to talk to and swoon anyone and a passion for musical expression and culinary enjoyments.
Jon grew up in Mansfied, PA. He received his Bachelors Degree in psychology from Mansfield University. He spent much of his career traveling as a construction safety manager. He was fondly referred to as “Sodapop” on the job.
He was an avid fisherman and spent some of his college years as a fly fishing guide out west. He enjoyed driving too fast and scaring you in his big bass boat. I’ve never seen a man with so many trophy fishing photos. He was also a hunter, lover of nature, and an exceptionally talented musician. In his younger years he played the sax, cello, piano, and vocals and expanded his musical repertoire to guitar and drums. Truly everything he applied himself to came naturally. Music was a healing sanctuary for his expression.
Jon also suffered with addiction and mental health and could quote every line of the big book backwards and forwards. He was a deeply spiritual man and found meaning in relationships, small acts of kindness, and giving back where he could. He was raw and genuine and had many challenges even from a young age. At his best, he was an exceptional and tender hearted man that touched many people to the core.
In such a shattering loss we are all left with so many unhealed pieces. So many questions and emotions and wounds that are difficult to navigate. I know Jon would want to be remembered with a fish or guitar in his hands, a smile on his face, and making those he loved smile and laugh.
May we find some peace knowing that Jon is free from his pain. May we know that he is cradled close to the divine and with the sweet belonging of his momma and daddy’s arms and that his sweet babies have a new guardian angel.
He is dearly missed by many as he left this earth far too soon. May we carry on his best for the sweet support and growth of his children. We love you Soda! May your spirit rest in peace.
A celebration of his life was held on the waterfront of Hills Creek Lake in Wellsboro, PA for family and close friends with a reception honoring Jon’s life at Lambs Creek Food & Spirits. If you would like to share your condolences or a story for his children you may send to Soderberg, PO Box 523, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
