Jonathon's obituary
Jonathon E. Maples, 35, of St. Paul, MN, passed away on May 3rd, 2023. He was born on March 5th, 1988 in Anaheim, CA.
Jonathon graduated from Red Wing High School in 2006 and went on to join the military as a Marine. He became a Marine Sgt & Crew Chief on both CH-46 & CH-47 helicopters. He served his country with pride for 10 years; 7 of those years in war zones including 5 years in Afghanistan training Afghan National Special Forces how to become Crew Chiefs. After his military service, Jonathon was accepted into a Top Ten US engineering program at both the University of River Falls and the University of Minnesota. He interned at Federal in Anoka, Mn during college then became their Top Design Engineer after graduation.
He finished in the class of 2011 and became Airframes & Powerplants Certified. He later got dual degrees in Physics and Mechanical engineering and worked at Federal Ammunition where he designed the Hammerdown 30-30 center fire rifle round.
In his spare time, Jonathon enjoyed collecting Marvel and comic book-inspired collectibles and was known to have an impressive collection. He was a self-taught man of many things including having an artistic side passed down from his mother. He was talented and his self-portrait sketch is exceptional. He was quick to help others with information and advice, and very skilled at it. Most importantly, his desire to help is genuine.
Jonathon is survived by his parents' mother, Teresa Maples, and his father, Jim Maples. He will be missed by all who knew him. Particularly Cheryl Maples who supported him as a partner for over 10 years. Further, Shaylyn Otto for her strong will and loving support to Jonathon when he passed.
Funeral and memorial services are yet to be finalized, and the family will release updates as soon as they are known.
