I only met Jonathan a few times as I worked with Cheryl, but I much appreciated his service. My heart goes out to you all.

When Cheryl and I met working at Trader Joe's, I had the privilege of getting to know Jon. Right away I felt a connection to him and respect for his commitment to his work and his love for my dear friend. Immediately we realized we loved many of the same things, the make and models of his car (right down to the year), moto riding, and general bad-assery. I will always fondly remember that about him. Although introverted, Cheryl affirmed he liked me a lot and appreciated my friendship and assistance to her when he would be overseas for months. This news makes me very sad but I respect his wishes, my heart goes out to those closest to him Rest is peace sweetheart.

Jon and I were both transfer students to the University of Minnesota the same semester in the Mechanical Engineering program. We became close through several of our shared classes and would always help each other out when we'd get stuck on an assignment, and he became one of my closest friends from the U of M. The two of us had pretty different backgrounds, him being a former Marine and me being a band geek, but he reminded me of both of my brothers. He had a bit of redneck in him, but also was a bit of a nerd. We bonded over comics, he was always buying another super hero statue, but we also bonded over our love of guns and motorcycles.
Jon was always open about his struggles with mental health, and hearing about his passing hit me incredibly hard. I was fortunate enough to have lunch with him just a few weeks prior to his passing and he seemed like he was doing well. He was enjoying his job, seemed to be recovering from his accident, and overall seemed to be in a much better place. I wish I could have been there more for him. We were talking about taking the bikes out this summer and going for a ride together, and I am very saddened that we will never be able to go for that ride, but I hope he is finally at peace.

It’s taken me awhile to put my thoughts into words. There’s so many great things that can be said about you, Jonathon. There were never any surface level conversations with you, you were always such a deep critical thinker even when it came to our mutual niche hobby of statue collecting. I’m always going to cherish the memories we had together. Hitting up Akita all you can eat sushi, the local taco joint by your house, or just ordering some good ole papa John’s. We met 5 years ago by chance, and even though we knew each other for a short period we became very close during that time. I’ll never forget all of the statue unboxings we shared. We had a special friendship that many people in our community wish they had. I watched you achieve everything you set your mind to. I’m going to miss you so much. I love you, I pray to God that you are at peace now. Until we meet again.

We had a bright idea to take a ride on his bike from MN to IA. Longest but also best day ever.
