Jonathan's obituary
Jonathan Joseph Mudd, 33, of Snellville, Georgia, passed away on January 30, 2026.
Jonathan was born on July 17, 1992, in Grayson, Georgia, to David and Deborah Mudd. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend whose strength, kindness, and quiet dedication left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Known by many as a gentle giant, Jonathan was fun-loving, warm-hearted, and possessed a great sense of humor. He was always willing to help others, often putting the needs of those around him before his own.
Jonathan graduated from Abbeville High School in 2011, where he was a standout wrestler and member of the football team. Wrestling was a defining passion in his life, and he was widely respected for his work ethic, leadership, and dedication to the sport. At Abbeville High School, Jonathan placed fourth in the Class AA-A Heavyweight State Championship and later wrestled in the North/South All-Stars Championship as a senior. He was voted onto the All-Stars team by coaches as the top heavyweight wrestler in the state. Known by his teammates as “Mudcat,” Jonathan was admired not only for his strength on the mat, but also for the encouragement, positivity, and leadership he brought to his team. Prior to attending Abbeville High School, Jonathan attended South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Ga, where he won the county heavyweight championship as a freshman.
Jonathan had a deep love for history and went on to major in history at Limestone University, where he also wrestled during his freshman year. Outside of academics and athletics, he enjoyed The Lord of the Rings, gaming, all things Viking, and the mystery of Bigfoot—interests that reflected his curiosity, imagination, and playful sense of humor.
Jonathan worked at Home Depot for over ten years, where he was known as a reliable and faithful employee. He earned the respect of coworkers and supervisors alike through his consistency, dependability, and willingness to help wherever needed.
Jonathan is survived by his parents, David Mudd of White, GA and Deborah Mudd of Abbeville, SC; his siblings Joshua Mudd of Snellville, GA, Sarah Mudd of Gainesville, GA, and Abigail Mudd of Columbia, SC; and his niece, Brynleigh Mudd of Gainesville, GA.
A memorial will be held on Friday, February 20th at Evangel Community Church in Snellville, Georgia (3857 Centerville Rosebud Rd, Snellville, GA 30039). Doors will open to guests at 1pm, and the service will begin at 2pm. All are welcome to attend and come support the family.
Flowers may be brought to the memorial service or delivered to the church address above. Messages of condolence and memorial contributions in memory of Jonathan may be uploaded to this website.
Jonathan will be remembered as a gentle giant—strong in body, generous in spirit, and rich in kindness—whose humor, loyalty, and willingness to help others will never be forgotten.
