Jon's obituary
While recovering from a broken leg, his attentive nurse would become his wife, Kristin May, and together they raised three children, Jessica Leland, Kelley Anne, and Jack Daniel.
His demanding and illustrious career never compromised his true commitment and joy, raising his children and nurturing their growth. His love for his children knew no bounds, whether simply prodding them to explore life, spreading his contagious laugh, or literally charging into a burning house. Jon’s protective hand was always watching over them. He taught them responsibility, to laugh, and to love. He instilled in them the character qualities and life perspective that would provide an everlasting positive influence on his little Murphys.
His passion, besides music, big dogs, and old westerns, was fly fishing. Put him in the pine trees and combing the banks of a river and his only complaint was that the Kingston Trio wasn’t there.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill. Survived by his three children, his brother Dennis, and former wife Kristen May Murphy.
So if you happen to be down by the Gallatin River one day, and you see this guy sporting a Filson hat snapping a fly line into the flowing river, please holler “Hey Jon, don’t fall in.” See you down by the river Pops.
