Jon's obituary

Jon Charles Hendrickson, 72, of Placerville, CA, passed away on June 9, 2023. Born on September 15, 1950, in Washburn, ND. Although Jon was a proud "Nodak," he remained in California for the majority of his adult life to stay close to his daughters and family. He was known for his extensive knowledge of just about everything, creativity, introspection, and sense of humor. Jon  dedicated himself to his family, his career, and his passions.

Jon is survived by his step-mother, Bonnie Hendrickson, step-brother, Blair Hendrickson, his daughters, Monica Brixey (Jesse) and Kirsten Hendrickson, as well as his grandchildren, Mikey and Madilyn Brixey. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Jon was preceded in death by his father, Charles "Chuck" Hendrickson, his mother, Bernice Hendrickson, and his brothers, Don Hendrickson and Chris Hendrickson.

Jon attended Minot High School and went on to pursue higher education at Minot State, and later CSU Sacramento, where he double-majored in Communications and History. Jon served in the US Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor from 1970 to 1974. While there, he met and married Bonnie Locke and eventually had his two daughters. Although they later separated, they remained good friends until his death. There gained valuable experiences and skills in communications as well as a collection of stories he would share for years to come.

In 1983, Jon began his career at George Hills Company and worked out of the El Dorado County office since the 1990s. His dedication and hard work were evident throughout his tenure with the company. He valued his work relationships and friendships made over his decades in claims administration.

Outside of work, Jon had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He was passionate about motorcycles, airplanes, wine, music, movies, and his cat, Indy. Jon enjoyed taking Sunday drives with his daughters when they were young and cherished the time he spent teaching his grandkids to "keep having fun."  They loved their "Poppy," as he chose to be called, as a tribute to his father, and also because he felt the word "Grandpa" was for "old guys." He also loved spending time with his circle of friends. Jon had a love for writing and was an active member of a writers group, where he enjoyed collaborating with fellow writers.

In early 2023, Jon had to retire from his job due to illness, but he remained dedicated to his work until then. Throughout his life, Jon was known for his gift of gab and enjoyed engaging in conversation with those around him. He was also able to dominate any game of trivia he was challenged to.

A memorial service to honor Jon's life will be held at a later date. The details of the service will be shared once they are determined.

Jon Charles Hendrickson will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of always encouraging others to live their best lives will remain alive in their hearts.
