Jon's obituary
Jon Clark Bennett passed away quietly on March 29, 2026, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born on January 17, 1948 in Portland, Oregon to Lloyd Bennett and Patricia (Green) Kaufman. As a boy, he loved riding his bike, playing with friends and being with family. He spends much time with his grandparents and cousins, and was friends with everyone. He was an influence for good, and often stood up to bullies for those who couldn’t stand up for themselves. He was always involved in leadership including class and student body president, loved wrestling and baseball, played clarinet throughout school and loved singing. He was always known as a hard worker. He loved his job at McDonald’s, which got him through high school and college until he left to serve an LDS mission among the Navajo people in southeastern Arizona.
He married Kristine on August 27, 1971, and established their home in the Pacific Northwest. His career in pharmaceutical sales took him to Northern California and Missouri, and eventually settled in the Portland/Vancouver area. He was known to his clients as “one of the good guys”, showing authenticity and kindness to everyone he met. Jon and his wife loved being around family, and went to great lengths to visit his four children in Arizona, Utah, Arkansas and Texas. Known to his grandchildren as “Papa”, he never missed a birthday, forgot a conversation, and was the first one to congratulate and cheer them on in their various interests and pursuits. They loved his visits because they knew the conversation would always be about them, and he loved making time to talk to them.
Jon possessed the Christlike attribute of making everyone he met feel as if they were the most important person in the world. His conversations always focused on other people, rarely making mention of himself, and struck up a conversation with everyone he knew. He often spent most days thinking of those with whom he could connect, share a conversation and a laugh, and lifted others with his contagious smile. He did it without motive or recognition; he was always genuinely interested and sincere. He was the first one to attend a baseball game, a choir concert, or any event to support his friends and family. His love of Jesus came through his love for others. He loved his Heavenly Father and held many church leadership positions including Assistant to the President, Stake Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor, and High Councilman.
He was a die-hard Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks fan, finally seeing the Seahawks win the Super Bowl!
Jon was proceeded in death by his parents and is survived by his two sisters, Carolie (Bennett) Sandberg and Kathleen (Bennett) Bean, and multiple cousins, his wife Kristine (Bendixsen, his children - Jody (Will) Rogers, Josh (Shaunell) Bennett, Lindsay (Chris) Nicholson and Chelsea (David) Jackson, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children.
His memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, at 11:00 at the LDS church located at 13600 Southeast McGillvary Blvd. in Vancouver, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes thoughtful gifts of self care for his wife Kris as she adjusts to the days ahead.
