Jon's obituary

With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother and son, Jon Joseph Balon on September 24, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. He was cremated on October 1. He was 36 years young.

As a child and young adult, Jon developed a wide range of hobbies, and enjoyed playing guitar, photography, Star Trek fandom and PC gaming.

Jon graduated from the University of Toronto Scarborough with a Bachelor of Science and eventually found a calling in computer programming.

He was entirely self-taught and talented enough to quickly jumpstart a career as a Software Engineer. He also took great joy in mentoring and teaching new programmers, and for three years ran local programming Meetup groups.

Most recently, Jon grew to love Japanese culture so much that he was keen on learning the language and passed written exams. He grew to love musical acts like Band Maid, AKB48 & Scandal.

Jon was a quiet and private person, but he made a tangible impact in the lives of people he crossed, no matter how big or small the interaction.

Against all the challenges he faced, he showed an admirable level of determination and willpower.

Jon is survived by his younger brother Joshua Balon and his parents Godofredo and Luzviminda Balon.
