Jolien's obituary

In Loving Memory of Jolien Mierke

January 7, 1938 – October 8, 2025

Jolien Mierke, born in Elberton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 87. A trailblazer, feminist, and devoted public servant, Jolien lived a life marked by courage, intelligence, and compassion.

Over four remarkable decades, she rose through the ranks of the Central Intelligence Agency to become one of its highest-ranking women. Known for her leadership, brilliance, and integrity, she worked closely with five U.S. presidents and helped safeguard the nation she deeply loved.

After retiring in the late 1990s, Jolien continued her life of service alongside her beloved husband and soulmate, Edward. Together, they earned master’s degrees in counseling and devoted their later years to helping others—offering marriage and grief counseling through Columbia Baptist Church, mentoring teens, and teaching English as a Second Language.

A proud member of Mensa, Jolien was fiercely loyal, profoundly intelligent, and endlessly nurturing. She was tough but fair, honest to a fault, and always saw the potential in others—challenging those she loved to rise to it. Her wit, warmth, and strength left an enduring impact on everyone she met.

She is survived by her children, Karen and Ken; her grandchildren, Christina, Tony, Kelley, and James; and her great-grandchildren, Sophie and Benjamin.

Jolien has now rejoined her beloved Edward, her lifelong partner and greatest love. They are together again—soulmates reunited in peace. Her legacy of service, love, and excellence will continue to inspire all who knew her.
