Johnny (John)'s obituary
John was born on April 21, 1940 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Farris and Francis Haynes.
John received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of New Mexico on June 5, 1964 and worked as a NASA contractor and also held a few positions in the utilities industry, ending his career with 30+ years at Central & Southwest/American Electric Power. John retired at 62 and was able to spend his retirement years with his family and friends.
John met the love of his life, Emaleta (Emie) Ann Leachman when they were in grade school. They dated throughout high school and married on February 7, 1962. They shared 57 years of marriage together. During these 57 years, John raised a daughter, Rebecca, and a son, Chad, but what he was most proud of were his grandchildren, Paisley and Graham. He was actively involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, leaving them with many happy memories.
John was a giving, compassionate person, helping anyone he came across who needed any type of help. John loved life; he loved going out with friends and family. John rarely missed a football, baseball or volleyball game if a grandchild was playing or his son was coaching. John was affectionately referred to as ‘Clark’ (Griswold) by his family and friends. John loved nothing more than being with his family. John was known for his sense of humor and his kind spirit.
John was preceded in death by his father, Farris, his mother Francis, and his brother, Tommy (Tom). He is survived by his wife, Emie, his two children, Chad and Becky, his two grandchildren, Paisley and Graham, his sister, Sheryl, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held to honor John’s life at the Wilhelmina State Park Lodge Conference Room in Mena, Arkansas on October 12, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00.
