Special to The Times COLUMBIA, Mo. - A 33-year-old former Independence man died Monday at a hospital in Columbia after being injured in a one accident Saturday in Camden County, Mo. The Missouri Highway Patrol said the victim, John Walter Masterson Jr., Macks Creek, Mo., was a passenger in a vehicle that ran off the road and struck a concrete wall. The car, driven by David Orlando, 35, of St. Louis, was southbound on Missouri 5 about midnight Saturday when the accident occurred, the patrol said.
Mr. Masterson was born in Independence, where he lived until he moved to Macks Creek two years ago. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cash of the home; six half brothers, William McBee, Butler, Mo., and Jackie Masterson, Walter Masterson, Joseph Masterson, Curtis Masterson and Timothy Masterson of Holden, Mo.; three half sisters, Mrs. Cindy 0g- burn, Carrollton, Ky., Mrs. Morlene Hirtie, Camdenton, Mo., and Neata Masterson, Holden; three stepbrothers, Robert Cash, Macks Creek, and Richard Cash and Ronald Cash of Independence; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and.. Mrs. Alfred A. Popp, Independence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the chapel.
