John's obituary

John Zubalik, age 79, of Belair, Maryland, passed away on August 31, 2024, at Sterling Care of Belair after a prolonged illness. John was born on November 19,1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to his parents, John Zubalik Jr. and Anna Zubalik (nee Vicen). He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Mark. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Zubalik (nee Odle) and their son John. He was also pre-deceased by his fiancée, Kathleen Cotterell. John is survived by five children: Dawn Fitzsimmons and her husband John; Donna Kennedy and her husband, Shawn; Deborah Panagos and her husband Tim, Joseph Zubalik and his wife Judith (nee Westerfield); and Michael Zubalik. John is also survived by his second wife, Linda Zubalik (nee Westerfeld) and siblings Maxine Marie Grimes, Carol Ann Selby, and Denise Urban. His grandchildren include: Jordan Kennedy, Taylor Fitzsimmons, Collin Kennedy, Sarah Panagos, Hannah Panagos, Jake Fitzsimmons, Grady Panagos, Ryan Zubalik, and Nathan Zubalik, as well as great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

John was a Towson Catholic High School graduate and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era, a Baltimore City Police officer, and an officer of the Maryland Port Authority. He ended his working career as a truck driver. John was born and raised in the Roman Catholic faith and a member of several parishes in the Baltimore Metropolitan area throughout his lifetime.

A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26th at 10:00 AM at St Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane Pikesville, MD 21208. A private interment for family will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Finksburg, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a contribution be made to Tunnel For Towers Foundation, an organization that provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children. They also build specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.
