John's obituary

“Loving and Loved.”

A proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, storyteller, and friend,
John B. Wilson, Jr. (JBW) was born on April 25, 1938, in Shreveport, LA, and on Monday morning, April 1, 2019, he passed peacefully at his home in Austin, TX. After a long bout with ill-health, JBW now rests with his Father in Heaven, where there is no more sickness or sorrow. He was a fun-loving and beloved man who loved to tell stories, bake pies, and laugh. In healthier days, he also taught Sunday School and coached church softball. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him.

After 22 years of honorable service for the U.S. Navy, JBW retired as a Chief Petty Officer. “Chief Willie” spent years as a “Tweet” (an Avionics Technician), and received commendations for his role in ‘beta testing’ early remote-controlled submarine-searching drones on the USS Buck (DD-761). After leaving the USN in 1977, JBW moved to Austin, Texas, where he served central Texas for more than 15 years installing home security systems and electronics. Later, he installed some of the first smart home systems in the Austin area with his business: Wilson’s VIP Security.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; daughter, Toni, of Austin, TX; son, John (w: Brenda), of Papillion, NE; son, Steve (w: Cheryl), of Allentown, PA; daughter, Sharon (h: Steve), of Temple, TX; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John B. Wilson, Jr., was preceded in death by his father, JBW, Sr.; mother, Mattie; sister, Nadine; and brother, Stephen.
