How you can help

John respected all sports but had a love and passion for playing baseball/softball. He played baseball in high school and intramural softball throughout his military career. He transitioned from player to umpire and officiated softball league games that played at Miami-Dade County parks (in Florida) for 33 years. In lieu of memorial flowers, donations in John’s name will be given to the Miami-Dade County Parks to support their sports programs. Contribute   Right arrow

Obituary

John Emery Watts passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023. He was affectionately known as “Papa,” “Papa Watts,” “Grandpa Owie,” and “Dad” by his family, “The Bull” by the hospital staff, and “Big John” by others.

Born July 21, 1942 to Arthur and Thelma Inez Watts, John lived his young life in Indianapolis, Indiana with his two siblings, Kenneth and Larry, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby. A few years after he graduated …
