John Wainaina, 65, of Williamsport, PA, passed away on July 02, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.

John was born on March 13,1957  in Gacharage-ini Sublocation, Murang'a District. After graduating from Muthangari Primary School in 1975, he went on to study mechanical engineering at the Universtiy of Nairobi.


After graduation, he landed his first job as a mechanical engineer for East African Industries, KTDA for 5 years before he later then went to Mathu Paper Company to work. In 1977, he met Virginia Njoki Chege, and they wed in 1980, going on to have [number of 6 children, Florence Wanjiru, Patrick Wainaina, Susan Muthoni, Hannah Wanjiku, Purity Chege and Rosemary Karimi.


John was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to his than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Susan Muthoni, Purity Chege, and Virginia Njoki Chege and always tried his best to support them.


John was also a passionate tutor and could often be found teaching when he wasn’t at home.


Anyone who knew John knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. John was predeceased by Dorcas Wambui Muraya. He is survived by his wife and children.


The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to 1100 Four Mile Drive Williamsport, PA 17701. There will be a funeral service/memorial celebration of life at 11 am at Elimu.
