John's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Thomas Thummel, affectionately known as Hans to close friends. He was born on February 26, 1991, and suddenly left us on the 28th day of October, 2025.
John is survived by his mother, Jana Leys, his father, Randolph Thummel, brother, Kristopher Stockberger and Kristopher's wife, Terry Stockberger. John also leaves behind his uncles, Michael and Daryl Roach, his aunt Liz Roach, and cherished niece, Nicole Stockberger. All remember him fondly.
He was predeceased by grandparents, Elizabeth "Betty" and Thomas Roach, and Rosa and Hans Thummel.
An intelligent young man of wit and warmth, he enjoyed dancing especially West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop, and had a passion for group games such as Dungeons & Dragons, board games and video games.
Not just a gaming aficionado, John also held an appreciation for art, particularly the works of friends, painter Ashton Schiafino in Brenham and the imaginative 3D works of Pasha MadArt at galleries in Dallas.
His recreational interests were engaging and heartfelt in alignment with his personality, From dancing to spending time with friends by playing D&D to hours of solitude coding or delving into a good book.
He had a natural inclination towards exploration. The Netherlands, Portugal, and Italy were among his favorite travel spots. He admired local folks and their lifestyles, enjoyed the culture and developed a taste for new cuisines.
John was one who shared his technical skills and was always ready to lend a hand especially where he could teach or learn. His personality was characterized as witty, intelligent, and good-natured. While he has left us, his legacy of love and laughter will continue to live in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
John's sudden passing is heartbreaking to many, but his spirit and the memories he created with them will forever remain alive. May his soul rest in peace with Christ, in paradise for eternity.
