John's obituary

John Clayton Thomas, 66, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, April 10th, 2018.

John was born March 10, 1952 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Joseph (Bud) and Eileen Thomas. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1970 and from Purdue University in 1974. On August 28th, 1971 he married his beloved wife Ann (Cantrell) in Fort Wayne. John and Ann had four sons, Clayton, Seth (Kristi), Nathan (Michelle), and Daniel (Rachel). John was the proud grandfather of nine (Kati, Levi, Seth Mark, Joaquin, Noah, Ava, Ryan, Rafael, Penelope).

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his siblings Barbara (Jim) Wilson, Tim (Ann) Thomas, Becky (Pete) Surdenik, and Betsy (Ed) Hayes as well as numerous other extended family members including his sister-in-law Darlene Thomas, and many nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Eileen Thomas of Huntertown, IN, as well as his siblings Jim Thomas and Peggy Thomas.

John was a dedicated follower of Christ, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, an accomplished landscape architect, helped in the construction of multiple churches, designed award-winning water features, and coached multiple youth sports teams. John and Ann helped establish the Northwest Warriors Sports Club. He also enjoyed nature walks with Ann, going to sporting events, cheering for his beloved Boilermakers, church activities and spending time with his children and grandchildren. John was an active member at College Park Church in Indianapolis.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13th and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday April 14. A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 14th. All services will be held at Traders Point Christian Church, 6590 S Indianapolis Rd Whitestown, IN 46075. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the International Justice Mission (www.ijm.org)
