John's obituary

John David Teeter was born on December 6, 1966. He was one of three sons born to Paul and Peggy Teeter. John passed away on May 26, 2021 at the age of 54. A California native, John was born in San Diego and spent his high school years in Elk Grove, a suburb of Sacramento, but he considered Bishop to be his beloved hometown. It was there where he had fond childhood memories of hunting and fishing in the streams and lakes, mine exploring, riding dirt bikes, working at his first job in a local bakery, skiing on Mammoth Mountain, going to the Mule Days rodeo and playing in a backyard creek with his two brothers. John’s early childhood family camping trips to national parks and historical sites sparked his excitement for travel. Even and especially into adulthood, John’s love of travel was a large part of his life. Whether to another city, state or continent, he loved to challenge himself by learning about and traveling to new places. After graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1985 where he played football and ran track, John attended Chico State University where he was a member of the Beta Omega Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and graduated in 1989 with a degree in Business. John continued his graduate studies at Notre Dame where he earned an MBA from the Mendoza School of business in 1995. Shortly after, John moved to Redondo Beach CA where he met his wife-to-be, Pam. They married in June of 1999 and the following year moved to the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach CA where they had two beautiful children, Olivia (2003) and Lena (2005). John took great joy in sharing his love of Notre Dame football, eclectic music, art, travel, NPR, stories about growing up in Bishop, and food adventures with his family. He was very dedicated to his 20+ year career as an Executive. Having worked in a variety of leadership roles that spanned many facets of industrial sales, marketing and manufacturing, his last post was as President of Paper Mart in Orange, CA. In addition to his career, John loved any opportunity to go off-roading in his jeep “Rubi”, and cook for his family and friends. He said many times, “Nothing makes me happier than cooking Sunday dinner for a big group of people.” And he meant it. Whether it was a Sunday BBQ of tri-tip, potato salad, and “Teeter beans”, delivering fresh baked bread that he had perfected over the years, or cooking a Thanksgiving turkey with his mom, cooking for his family and friends was one of the ways he loved them. He appreciated the simple joys of laughing at his children’s jokes at the dinner table, dressing up with his family on Halloween, and nightly walks in the neighborhood with his wife and their “spooglehound” Teddy. In the last few years of his life, John spent more of his free time serving his community by preparing and delivering hundreds of sack lunches to the many homeless in Long Beach that had been hit hard by Covid-19 and by volunteering to prepare food at the Long Beach Rescue Mission. John’s friends remember him as “kind, generous, and always good to be around.” His mother remembers him as “cute, mischievous and clever” at a very young age. “In backyard play, he appointed himself president of a business before he could write”… perhaps a glimpse into the future of a CEO in the making. In addition to his wife and children, John is survived by his mother, Peggy; siblings, Dan (Catherine), and Brian; nephews and niece, Vincent, Spencer, and Natalie. He was predeceased by his father, Paul and his nephew Quinn. John’s family will be honoring his wishes which do not include a formal service. Remembrances of John to be shared with his family may be emailed to inmemoryofjdteeter@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, family and friends have asked how they may support John’s Family, particularly his children.
