John's obituary
Born December 5, 1964, in Sacramento, California, John David Tatro passed into God’s hands on August 27, 2025. John was a devoted follower of God from the time he was a child, attending Holy Spirit Parish School, and later graduating from Christian Brothers High School. Following high school, John attended Sacramento City College, where he earned a degree in Business to follow in the footsteps of the family business, Sierra Select Distributors.
After the passing of his brothers, he took on a larger role at Sierra Select and became a well-respected business owner in the industry. Although John was a hard worker and dedicated much of his time to running the business, he also had many passions and interests, including playing the bass in various bands and church ministry, golfing, attending concerts, and traveling with his family.
John was a loyal SF Giants fan and attended three World Series games. He was an avid outdoorsman but found the most joy by the beach—especially in South Carolina, where he and his wife, Joey, fostered lasting friendships and a lively community. John made his family and friends a top priority in his life.
He will be remembered as a caring, intentional, humorous, charismatic, and loving man. He was selfless in the way he lived, always putting family and friends first. He was his daughters greatest protector, a devoted husband and a loving grandfather “pop-pop”.
John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joey Rae Tatro; his three daughters, Cheyenne, Samantha, and Chloe; his son-in-law, Dustin; and his grandson, Luca. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Carmen Tatro, and his brothers, Pat and Mike Tatro.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Bayside Church, 8191 Sierra College Blvd., Roseville, CA 95661.
