Randy's obituary
John Randall (Randy) Shoemaker, born February 23, 1947, in Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 11th at 8:42 pm at Bryn Mawr Hospital. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, John was the esteemed owner of PSAG Inc., where his passion for philately shaped a remarkable legacy in the stamp-collecting community.
As a respected expert and leader, he dedicated himself to advancing the study and appreciation of stamps, earning admiration for his knowledge, integrity, and enthusiasm. His work through PSAG Inc. provided invaluable expertise to collectors worldwide, preserving the history and artistry of philately. Randy’s love for stamps was matched only by the countless friendships he forged within the community. His warmth, generosity, and shared passion for the hobby created bonds that will endure as part of his legacy.
Beyond philately, Randy found joy in the serenity of fly fishing on the Au Sable River, the camaraderie of bowling, the joy of softball, and the challenge of golf. Whether casting a line in a tranquil stream, celebrating a strike at the lanes, or enjoying a round on the fairways, he embraced these passions with the same enthusiasm and connection he brought to all aspects of his life.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Shoemaker, and his cherished children, Shannon Whittingham (husband Tom Whittingham) and William Blaine Nicklaus (wife Amy Nicklaus). His memory will live on through his adored grandchildren, Madilyn Nicklaus (14), William Whittingham (14), Emma Nicklaus (13), Harrison Whittingham (11), and Elizabeth Whittingham (11), who brought immense joy to his life.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at The Ventry Estates Club House (1 Clubhouse Road, Newton Square, PA 19073) on Sunday, October 19th, 2025, from 12-3 pm.
His legacy in the stamp community, his love for life’s simple pleasures, and the warmth he shared with those around him will forever shine brightly.
