John's obituary

John Vincent Shanley, 78, of Allamuchy, NJ passed away at home peacefully in his sleep from a short battle with cancer on Monday, June 26, 2023.

John was born on November 1, 1944, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Orange, NJ. In 1963, he graduated from Bloomfield Technical High School in Bloomfield, NJ with a focus in Machine Shop. He then went on to graduate in Electronic Technology at R-E-T-S Electronic School in 1966. John co-owned a construction business at one point (Bardi and Shanley) and wore many hats throughout the years.

John was an excellent handyman who selflessly cared for his family. He was an exceptional father who took his girls on many trips, was known by all for his sense of humor and loved the company of others. He enjoyed listening to talk radio, working outside on his property and loved to dance, with a special interest in Square Dancing. He was always the life of the party and smiled through all adversities.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Deborah Shanley (Bolster) and his 4 daughters, Monica Caprio (Shanley), Jennifer Shanley-Smith, Heather DeMeola (Cavall) and Jessica Grablewski (Shanley). He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Kayleigh Smith, Connor Green, Cullen Smith and Aidan Grablewski, as well as his sister Frances Cahalan (Shanley) and her children and many others.

John was predeceased by his parents, John Francis Shanley and Fanny Shanley (Kilcullen), and his grandson, Gavin John Grablewski.

With the help of Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, John was greatly cared for at his home before his passing.

A private viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
